Ernest lost his life at home during the Easter Tuesday Raid along with his mother Lily and siblings David and Peggy. The Carter family also lost their lives in this incident.
His body was taken to St George’s Market for identification.
Ernest is buried in Knockbreda Cemetery with his family.
