Joan was presumed dead as a ‘consequence of war operations’ at an inquest held at Belfast City Hall on 19 June 1941.
She lost her life at her grandparents home on Ballynure Street during the Easter Tuesday Raid. Her grandparents Jeremiah and Lavina, uncles Desmond, Jeremiah, William, Robert, Jack and Cecil and parents John and Una were also killed. The Douglas family who had taken shelter with the Clarkes were also killed.
Joan has no known grave.
