Mary Jane Close was injured at 35 Westbourne Street but died of her wounds at the 24th London General Hospital at Campbell College.

Three huts and the north block, including the officer’s mess at the hospital, were destroyed by high explosives during the Fire Raid. Thirteen service personnel lost their lives.

Her sons Albert and William were also killed at their home on Westbourne Street. Fifteen others were also killed.

She is buried with her sons at Dundonald Cemetery.
