Known as Mark,he died when No. 213 Antrim Road suffered a direct hit from a parachute mine during the Easter Tuesday Raid. Six others lost their lives at this address.

He belonged to No. 231 Squadron based at Newtownards Airfield which was also bombed during the Easter Tuesday Raid.

He was the son of the Revd. Wilfrid Stanley Brookes and Jane MacNaught Brookes, of Corrie and is buried in the Old Churchyard, Sannox, Kilbride, Isle of Arran.
