William was killed when a parachute mine destroyed 2 shelters, 10 houses and a school in the Ravenscroft Avenue and Avondale Street area during the final raid on Belfast.
At least 20 people, including his wife Agnes, daughter Charlotte, granddaughters Jean, Agnes and Martha and grandsons William and Ralph, were killed in the incident.
He is buried in Belfast City Cemetery.
