Company Quartermaster Sergeant McMurray was killed when a high explosive bomb landed amongst the huts of 70th (Young Soldiers) Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers at Newtownards Airfield. Thirteen soldiers lost their lives and several more were injured.
He was the son of George and Annie McMurray and the husband of Susan Elizabeth McMurray. He is buried in Bessbrook Methodist Cemetery.
