5 Ways to Wellbeing on World Mental Health Day

This #WorldMentalHealthDay, we've come up with some ways to improve your mental health by following the Five Ways to Wellbeing:

Connect

Our dementia friendly outreach workshops help participants from care homes and community groups connect together as they share memories about the Second World War. Reminiscence can improve wellbeing and our multisensory workshops use objects and photographs from the museum collection to help older people connect with their memories of the past. To book an outreach workshop for your group email Michael at outreach@niwarmemorial.org.

Get active

Our self-guided Belfast Blitz walking tour explores sites of interest in the city centre and how they were impacted by the air raids in 1941. Take time to stretch your legs and compare how the streets look today with photographs taken at the time. Pick up a walking tour map in the museum and follow the QR code for audio descriptions at each stop.

Take notice

Visit the NWIM gallery to see our collection of beautiful artworks including a stained glass memorial window and copper frieze. Take notice of details in artist John Sherlock's Blitz Survivors sculpture including a child's teddy bear, cobblestones, the victory rolls hairstyle and a button which has fallen off the mother's dress.

Give

Do you have memories of the Second World War? Our growing Oral History Project collects interviews with people who have memories of the war years. As an accredited museum we also welcome the donation of photographs, objects and written stories relating to the Second World War in Northern Ireland. If you would like to give an interview or object to the museum collection please get in touch with us by emailing projects@niwarmemorial.org.
