The 5 ft high bronze sculpture by Carolyn Mulholland was commissioned by NIWM as a memorial to the victims of the Belfast Blitz.
Crisscross planks symbolise the chaos, destruction and violence of war and the sculpture contains both positive and negative (empty) human shapes.
Positive shapes represent the survivors who had to deal with the sense of loss and grief while the negative spaces depict those who were killed.
Notable details include small positive shapes surrounded by larger empty spaces to depict children orphaned by the blitz and positive spaces with a smaller negative space within to symbolise loss of a child or relative.
